Day 1- What is clean eating?
First I would like to explain what clean eating is and what it is not. Clean eating is so simple. We are just going back to the basics. With that being said we are not going all the way to cave man days like the new popular Palio diet. I believe the Palio diet is depriving you of essential nutrients. We are talking about putting down the boxed foods and most of the canned foods and picking up whole foods. What are whole foods? Whole foods are things like vegetables, fruits, oatmeal, meats, beans, things at their most basic form. We want to get rid of the preservatives, chemicals, artificially colored, flavored and sweetened, fatty, fried foods, and unnatural ingredients. while also avoiding gmo’s, pesticides, hormones, and antibiotics.
Now I know this doesn’t sound simple like i said it was but it really is. In just a week or two you will see how naturally you gravitate toward these good foods and away from the bad ones. I hear it already, “Well I’m not going to be able to this: I don’t have time to cook everything from scratch!!!! My kids won’t eat like this they are too old to get them to change now!!!” The list of excuses is endless. The problem with this is you are the manager of the home you are the one who buys the groceries and makes the meals you can decide what your family eats. Yes you will get some angry family members by switch some of their favorites out but you are saving their lives. After all you are mom not their best friend it is your job to take backlash for the sake of their health. A resent study said our kids generation is the first generation to have a shorter life span than their parents! I don’t know about you but that is enough to scare me in to changing the way my family lives.
There are some steps you will need to take in order to do this or anyone to handle this lifestyle in today’s busy busy world because really who is not busy now a days. You need to meal prep you have to work on time management you need to stock up on healthy foods like nuts for quick on the go snacks. Bag them individually to grab or put a bag or two in your purse, back packs, or cars make it as easy on yourself as possible. We will talk more about meal prep and Clean Eating in later posts but I hope this helped explain a little about what clean eating is. Check back tomorrow for tips to switch your pantry to eating clean.
