About me- Millie
I am a Christian, wife, mother, and blogger. I live in southern Illinois with my husband Matt and 3 beautiful children. We have a house full and love every minute. My husband and I are US Navy Veterans. As a “Navy brat” myself I decided I didn’t want that for my kids so we transitioned out. I decided to go to school and get a similar job as I had in the navy as a Gas Turbine Electrician. I was nearly finished with that degree when I got pregnant with number 2.
Stay At Home Mom Life
I came to the realization that we would have little to no family time, with my husband and my career choices. I decided then that I would stay home with the kids until they were in school. Little did I know what God had in store for me.
The Journey to Homeschooling
A couple years later my almost 4 year old was so bright and energetic. The preschool she was attending couldn’t keep her engaged she was just so bored. So I decided to teach her myself. This went terrible she has ADHD and we would butt heads constantly. So she went in to kindergarten. After a short time in kindergarten she was having trouble with behavior and was beginning to fall behind. I prayed and prayed sure that homeschooling could not be the right choice.
An Answered Prayer
She didn’t come of the bus at the end of the day and I was frantic. Calling the school and bus depot!!! No one could tell me where my child was. I called her teacher and the office over the next 30 min more than a dozen times. The worst case scenario running though my head. Finally they found her with the after school kids safe and sound. She had told her substitute teacher she went to the after school program. For some reason the teacher took her at her word. A kindergartener!! When clearly it was marked that she was a bus rider. This was the last straw she was officially a homeschooler the next day.
We still struggled through our school work and butted head left and right. On top of the fact that I found out I was pregnant with baby number 3. I was sure this was not what God wanted for us we were miserable. The next year her and her sister went to public school. It was the same struggles everyday. She was coming home with marks on yellow, orange, or red. While her sister was beginning to throw tantrums and peeing her pants. Well again, I prayed and prayed and finally made the decision that I would bring them back home at the end of the year. Fortunately we quickly found a rhythm and I started to notice a big difference. Not only in their attitudes they were also doing above grade level school work. We have be homeschooling ever since.
I loved homeschooling for so many reasons and learning everyday to be a better homemaker. Life was going well but I felt like I needed a thing to call my own a way to contribute maybe. Blogging was the perfect fit. I was able to share the knowledge I was gaining and stop annoying my husband with this information! I could also have an outlet to minister to others to share Jesus with others. As an introvert this is something I struggled with in my faith talking to people in general causes me an insane amount of anxiety.
